Pre-Easter Lamb Prices Update March

Pre-Easter market season very strong for light lambs, especially Ohio. Colorado slaughter ewes up and light lambs steady to strong, and other markets firm to strong. As before there is quite a lot of variation from market to market and wide difference between light lambs and heavy.

June Lamb Prices Steady to Strong

Ft Collins Colorado reported lamb prices up $8 to $10 per hundred weight compared to the previous report.  

Lamb Prices + Montana Commerical Sale

The commercial bred ewe sale in Billings, MT saw strong demand for bred ewes. Some yearlings went as high as $300 per head.

Lamb Prices Surge Higher

Markets across the country saw lamb prices improving significantly. Word is that the backlog of heavy lambs in the feedlots has finally gone to market. In addition, inventories in Australia and New Zealand are lower. Feed costs in the US are lower improving the willingness of feedlots to buy and feed lambs.

Reports coming out of New Zealand of reduced production due to drought and word that the backlog of heavy lambs in US feedlots has diminished are resulting in a more optimistic outlook for lamb markets.
