Lamb Prices Continue Strong into Easter

The markets continue to show a lot of volatility with some classes of lambs doing very well in some areas will others not as well. But overall the Easter market appears to have given a good boost to most markets.

We are seeing considerable volatility in the lamb markets. A little over a week ago, Ft Collins, CO reported a sharp decline attributing it to sluggish movement from the feedlots. This week’s report shows lambs relatively strong coming into the Easter Holiday. Be prepared for more ups and downs.

First sales of 2014 have shown to be steady to stronger. Some of the midwestern markets had low numbers – too few to report due to the cold weather. The markets reporting also have light numbers.

Most of the markets are holding steady and some are even stronger as I post this report. The improvement comes largely from the fact that the feedlot backlogs have finally been diminished and the supply of lambs on the world market are down.
