Lamb Prices Update April 19, 2015

Posted By on April 19, 2015

Wide swings in regional prices. Ft Collins, CO down sharply. Twin Falls, ID up.

***Light – 50 – 60 pound lambs bringing $140 – $160 per head. While heavier – 125 – 140 pound lambs bringing only $125 – $135/cwt? It makes no sense to feed them. Mind you, those light lambs were fancy quality. Exciting times.

Easter light lambs continued strong. However, I attended the Twin Falls sale on Saturday, April 5th, and saw a sharp drop in prices. Hopefully this is only a termporary condition.

Lamb Prices Update New Markets

Thanks to all who responded to my mini survey in the last email. Most of you responding wanted more markets so I went to work. And, thanks to the tips received, I found some good data.

Easter light lambs continue strong. Clearly there is a huge difference between the young, fancy quality lambs and the heavy finished lambs.

Pre-Easter Lamb Prices Update March

Posted By on March 11, 2015

Pre-Easter market season very strong for light lambs, especially Ohio. Colorado slaughter ewes up and light lambs steady to strong, and other markets firm to strong. As before there is quite a lot of variation from market to market and wide difference between light lambs and heavy.
